Why can't I follow a trail without recording it?

In Wikiloc, following a trail is linked to the recording feature. This is because the app needs to continuously track your location to guide you accurately along the route.

When you start recording, Wikiloc can:

  • Show your real-time position on the map
  • Compare your progress with the original trail
  • Warn you if you drift away from the planned path
  • Help you return to the correct direction

Without this active tracking, the app wouldn’t be able to provide these safety and navigation features.

Recording the trail doesn’t mean you’re forced to keep it.

When you reach the end and tap Finish, you can choose to Save the recording or simply Delete it if you don’t want it stored in your profile.
